An Italian hairstylist with the passion for foreign languages, Sergio Valente has learnt to express himself through the international language of style and beauty applied to haircuts and combings. His name has become a synonym of Italian taste for elegance, sophistication and fashion all over the world. Chosen by the most famous fashion houses of the world, Sergio Valente has become the Italian hairdresser of the models and the stars, with his creativity expressed through locks and scissors.

The Italian stylist of hair began his career in an unusual way. During the boom of the Sixties, he started to work as a consultant for the most famous hairdresser of the Italian capital, Filippo, who needed an interpreter for his English clientele. Sergio Valente had indeed chosen to study language, but once he set foot in the Roman hairstylist's salon he understood it had to be his place. He trained in that same salon for a few years before start out as a professional hairstylist.

Success came in 1966, when Sergio Valente was chosen for the cover of Vogue, his hairstyle photographed by the famous Helmut Newton. Since that first outburst, he became the favorite hairdresser of the Dolce Vita, the hairstylist of AltaModa Roma, his creativity recognized by the Italian as well as the foreign press, so much that he received the Art and Fashion Oscar in 1970. These were just his first step of what was destined to become a raising path marked by success after success.

Fifty years of great fame. The name of the Italian hairdresser has become a synonym and a guarantee of made-in-Italy style, originality and class. Sergio Valente has dressed the heads of the most famous supermodels, from Naomi Campbell to Kate Moss, from Carla Bruni to Mariacarla Boscono, working for the greatest fashion houses ever, from Valentino to Versace, Pucci or Sarli. His trendy haircuts and strange combings have been also appreciated by famous stars of the international panorama, not only singers and actresses but also politician. His scissors touched the most important heads of the world: from Cher to Barbara Streisand, but also Queen Elisabeth, Hillary Clinton and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. He definitely set the real hair trends of the Nineties, giving an important contribution to the fashion of the contemporary era.

The major reviews and magazines of the world wanted the name of Sergio Valente to appear among their collaborations. Vogue was just the first one, followed by international editions of Harpers' Bazaar, Mirabella, W USA and many others. His name was soon associated to the face that had begun to appear on the worldwide TV screens. The Italian hairdresser attended to many popular TV shows, from the Italian programs to even a CNN live or the ABC show “Good Morning America”. Sergio Valente was passing from being the hair-stylist of the star to being a star of the hairstyling.

The Italian hairdresser was awarded with many prizes, from the prestigious “ President Award- Most Creative Contribution” in 1995 In occasion of the Intercoiffeur meeting in New York, to the “Premio alla carriera” (career award) given to him during the fashion shows of AltaModa in Rome in 2004, or the Onoreficienza di Ufficiale "Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana" awarded to him in 2002 by the Italian President. But Sergio Valente recognizes the “World hair designer” awarding as the most important moment of his career. For that same reason, he understood and expressed the necessity to leave an inheritance to the young talents of hairstyling, so he instituted the Premio Sergio Valente (Sergio Valente Prize) in 1990.

The prize was created as a showcase for new talents of the sector. The Italian hairstylist had thought that he wanted to give an opportunity to the young hairdressers to express themselves and help them enter into the competitive world of Italian fashion. To reach his purpose, he founded the famous institution that every year welcomes new talents from all over the world, giving them the possibility to work side by side with the master of Italian hair styling in the most famous fashion events. Sergio Valente's concern doesn't include only young and talented promising names of the hair sector, but he is also engaged in charitable initiatives. Indeed, he is the head of the initiative “Il Natale dei cento Alberi d'Autore”, an yearly manifestation destined to people with problems or difficulties, which has soon been joined by "L'Arte nell'Uovo di Pasqua", another festival with benefit purposes.

The famous Italian hairstylist career has been marked by great fame and success, recognized all over the globe. Sergio Valente's new Beauty Atelier, inaugurated in 2010 in via del Babuino, in the centre of Rome, is a modern and innovative location used as a base for expressing the creative originality, the traditional professionalism and the elegance that have been characterizing the work of the Italian genius of hairstyle who has totally changed the way of wearing one's hair.
