HAVING studied industrial design in China and fashion design in the Netherlands, it’s no surprise that Xander Zhou’s collections have a progressive edge. Established in 2007, his eponymous Beijing-based label has established a reputation for experimenting with materials and silhouettes.

The young designer’s spring/summer 2013 collection stayed true to these sartorial signatures this evening with a flurry of tactile tanks, oversized silhouettes and embossed tailoring appearing in a steady stream down the catwalk. Hits of lilac, scarlet and teal broke up what was otherwise an entirely industrial colour palette, while the workwear references turned tailoring on its head.

I really like this collection. This reminds me of a menswear version of a Haider Ackerman collection

^^That's an interesting comparison. Other than the few jewel-toned shiny fabrics and some of the draping on the coats I don't really see that. But I like some of what I see here, too. But it's quite messy and all over the place. I'm not too familiar with this designer so I don't know if this urban dandy meets preppy high fashion boy meets nomad look is just his thing. I find it a bit confusing. The first two looks in post #3 are horrendous.

Yes, there's a fabulous softness to all of the designs, whatever that white fabric is at the beginning of the collection is absolutely divine.
This is a unique-looking aesthetic that I will keep looking out for.
