"She Is Queen Undisputedly of Mind and Body" (and of alternate guitar tunings, I might add)

I think it's about time that she got a thread.

So to all of you Joni admirers, what are your favorite albums and songs by her? How did you get to know her music? Healthy discussions highly encouraged. :flower:

p.s. Mods, I tried to search for her but no threads came up. Please feel free to delete this topic if one already exists. :flower:

omes a rain storm
Put your rubbers on your feet
Comes a snow storm
You can get a little heat
Comes love
Nothing can be done

Comes a fire
Firemen come and rescue you*
Blow a tire
You can patch the inner tube
Comes love
Nothing can be done

Don't try hidin'
'Cause it isn't any use
You'll just start slidin'
When your heart turns on the juice

Comes a heat wave
You can hurry to the shore*
Come a summons
Hide yourself behind a door
Comes love
Nothing can be done

Comes a headache
You can lose it in a day
Comes a toothache
See your dentist right away
Comes love
Nothing can be done

Comes the measles
You can quarrantine the room
Comes a mousie
You can chase it with a broom
Comes love
Nothing can be done

That's all brother
If you've ever been in love
That's all brother
And you know just what I'm speakin' of

Comes a nightmare
You can always stay awake
Comes depression
You could get another break
Comes love
Nothing can be done
Nothing can be done

JONI! :woot: Prob. the most famous person to come from my province, Saskatchewan. I don't even think she was born there, came when she was two, but we have claimed her as our own. A lot of her music really deals with being canadian, a westerner and a prairie girl. She's brilliant

What surprises me about her music is that it defies categories (especially in her latter albums) and that it is timeless. When I listen to her albums, it seems as if they don't have any decade or period associated with it.

"Hissing of Summer Lawns" is way way way ahead of its time. Up to now, I think "The Jungle Line" is stll being mixed in clubs all over.

This comes from being unafraid to explore or experiment beyond the boundaries normally expected. She always challenged the musical "norms", worked with different artists, breaking musical barriers, etc., and this have made her produce the music that I adore.

I don't have pictures of her, but she is quite a nice dresser too.

Write me a royal-blue parchment poem
Draw me a royal-blue lady like me
Draw me a smile
That's a lot like my own
And make my eyes flowers
And make my mind see
I will weave melodies only for you
And color them silver and saffron and blue

Build me a window to watch everything
Leave it unshuttered so nothing slips by
No season, no sorrow, no wonderful thing
No raspberry, strawberry sun in the sky
I will bring music and marsipan bars
And live deep inside you
Wherever you are

Teach me the ways of the Gemini twin
Show me the love that he says without words
Bring me his laughter again and again
The silence is singing, the quiet is heard
I will find harmonies waiting unsung
With two souls to sing them
Where once there was one

Ballerina, Valerie now
Move me through your crimson dances
Terragan, a red bandana
Bring me down your silver trances

I had a Joni Mitchell period some years ago where I listened to her all the time and when I had song lessons, I always wanted to sing her songs. I don't really listen much to her anymore, though I still like her music of course.

i love her,she has the most beauitful lyrics of all female singers  nd a very unique, quircky style!

I just watched, randomly, "you've got mail" for the first time.. and this woman was saying "it's like you know..that joni mitchell song. wishing you had a river to skate away on". it stuck in my head, and then i wake up today, my friend posted it on her FB --and I was wow, that's the song I'm looking for! :P I've been playing it all day, including "Blue."

I first saw her here^ in the Icons from the Past, but didn't know she was a singer.. She has a nice style, and it does remind me of that place ^_^

^oh river...one of the best songs ever.

i don't like everything joni does but i do admire so immensely. even at the risk of ruining her "pop" career she remained, and still does,so uncompromising creatively and quite often is ambivalent of the business of pop music. and some of her critical comments over the years regarding the state of today's popular music have resonated with me so much. in fact i recall in interview magazine a couple years ago she talking about how emotion expressed today is so cheesy compared with the level of actual tenderness that somebody like nat king cole was able to convey in his days. it's so very true.

She is so beautiful and so talented! I love her songs!
