Names:Born: Dora Philippine Kallmus
Other: Dora Kallmus
Other: Madame D'Ora
Dates: 1881 - 1963, 28 OctoberBorn: Austria, ViennaDied: Austria, Frohnleiten [nr. Steiermark]Gender: Female
Got her own studio in Paris in 1925 and shot many covers for L'Officiel Paris during the 20s and 30s. These must have been some of the first fashion photography covers? I could be wrong, but for sure American Bazaar was publishing the exquisite Erté covers at the time and American Vogue, I think, also preferring illustrations.
She also photographed Colette, Josephine Baker and various artists, dancers and actors...
Photographs of Leila Bederkhan...and others.
From what I understand her career was interrupted by the war as she was from Austria, living in Paris, and she was Jewish. Her focus, naturally, turned from glamour and fashion to more pressing things, such as staying alive and documentary photography.
