Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, Edita Vilkeviciute, Joan Smalls, Sui He & Shanelle Nyasiase step into a new era by Luigi & Iango for Vogue Japan, 03/2020. Coiffured art catapults us to a place of pure passion. Those with an eye for high fashion are asked to indulge their instincts, as this editorial starts this decade with a bang. Anna Dello Russo revitalizes the ‘roaring 20’s’ by embracing the thematic strength of this historic time period. In similar fashion, the 1920’s were also in the midst of dramatic social a political change (sound familiar). A change so revolutionary, it touched every part of society at large. One that welcomes the idea of understated elegance while simultaneously blending in the idea of bawdy beauty. So… to say this has nothing to do with the couture of the early 20th century, would be a falsehood. Galvanizing gorgeous looks from beaded-wear to geometric shapes. Art-Deco seized the spirit of wealth and prosperity, while Flapper Fashions touched on our need to breath. This was a country in flux. This is a country in flux. Nowhere is this more obvious than fashion statements that came to represent that era. And, I suppose what will come out of this time period as well. Here we see a celebration of these varied styles, with an unbridled sense of adventure.

Vogue Japan has proudly gathered 7 of the most beautiful women in the world. And, I say that without shame. These fine females represent the best of what beauty has to offer. Their beauty has a fullness that is fierce and recognizable. It stands in stark contrast to a female who is primarily pretty. There is nothing wrong with that, but, I dare say you understand what depth offers. The description is one that defies distinction. The visual is aided by the existence of said depth. In that reality, we understand the one cannot exist without the other. To say her beauty is an extension of her mind is literally the highest compliment you can pay a sentient being. To insinuate that someone’s mind is so fraught with visual appeal that it literally spills out over their physical being, is a compliment of the highest order. And, I dare say, one that any human would be honored and humbled to receive.

Beauty bends as cosmetic art extends the hand of freedom over the collective face. Georgi Sandev works within that reality. He understands that skin is the page of his paint. While using makeup as a cohesive element that combines these many factions of fashion. Thereby uniting the uniqueness that exists between each person. This is then a celebration of differences through the connective thread of applied cosmetics. That might sound trite at first listen. However, when you look at how this editorial flows, you can’t help but to be floored by the fusion accomplished. We are not talking about colors that coexist, we are talking about colors that collide with pride. Sandev does blown out brows like no-one in the business. His ability to erase the brow without being extreme, is true talent. The eyes are then left to shine. A scintillating mix of gold ignites the inner-eyes as a deep shade moves to a winged line. Mascara continues to be a non-starter, as we don’t see it’s need to achieve these daring looks.

Graphic actualization is the nomadic endowment of realistic enhancement. Beauty is bequeathed to us as each image is a gift given. Sending a systematic message that varies between passion and restraint. Art stresses subject more than form. Abstract form that is. Requiring No Strings to Fly or No Floor to Fall. The aim of an illustration is to elucidate or decorate a storied poem or piece of textual information. They provide a visual representation and can be used to display or disseminate important information. This truly isn’t an editorial for the feint of heart. Those for whom fabric falls with precision and poetic rhythm, understand that inside every design lives a kind of visionary purpose. Passion is a persuasion. Art is passion amplified. It then stands to reason that within those fabric walls there lives a truth. The mechanism by which we examine our purpose on this earth, changes within every mindful attempt to engage. Nothing is off limits and nothing should be underestimated. That is probably our weakest point as a humanity… our preconceived notions. When examining this idea, you begin to realized how detrimental that concept can be. To create we must be in an atmosphere of openness
