I always feel that magazines were far more representative in years gone past than we give them credit for - look through this issue, and you have models from different backgrounds all featured on their own merits. Any sense of agenda is absent, beauty is what counts.

Certainly, fashion magazines underwent a whitewash as we moved into the 90s, I imagine connected with the move toward using famous Hollywood stars to promote fashion.

^^^ Absolutely.

Every generation wants their own claim of Civil Rights/Women’s Lib/We’re Here, We’re Queer. But none have been so blatantly ignorant and dismissive of the monumental risks and progression the previous generations have endured and sacrificed so that this most arrogant of generation can whine about what amounts to their First-World problems of not enough Black individuals on the cover of Vogues. There’s a whole world out there where women/LGBT/minority violations continue to be committed daily as a way of life and have been horribly ignored because just try to protest for women’s and LBTA rights in some of these countries, rather than in the comfort of American cities where violent riots are freely enabled and celebrated.

I think this is an outtake from Close Fit (the model is Naomi and photographer Herb Ritts so I think it's from this ed)
