i miss steven klein's stripped down, airy shoots. his stuff for 90s bazaar still stand the test of time.

this was back when tonne still had it. that was such a gorgeous shoot.

love that willa cather quote, from one of my favorite books.

I have this issue and it is amazing! All the eds are great! Love Bruce Weber's the most. And the reality show theme seems so much better than what they have done nowadays.

God— such exquisite, dreammaking, worldbuilding high high high fashion stories…:sigh: And the casts :double sigh: …And this was American Vogue…?!?!?!

Bruce’s story is impossibly gorgeous, forever young and eternally radiant and so so so stylishly classic Americana.

What’s interesting is that this came out at the height of President Bush’s frighteningly imperial reign of conservatism that engulfed America— even Vogue was startlingly patriotic and unquestioning of his regime’s power play and destruction. And yet the fashions stories… as American-pie as they were generally, they still never gave into the staunchly conservative and reserved sighs of the time. They never pandered to the lowest common denominator and always kept the standards high— and were still high fashion. :cough:These faux-socialist days in fashion could learn from that era in fashion…:cough:
