Victoria's Secret To Drop Tv Fashion Show

Guys, can you please move this outside...? :ninja:

There is already a topic here about the definition of art.
Also, personal attacks are unnecessary.

o no no...my point is that if you think this crap...which i think is crap..is art...then we disagree and i do not wish to argue about it so i have nothing more to say...you are obvioiusly entitled to your opinion and it is not my job to try and change it and i have no desire to do so...but i am very passionate about my point of view...and i will not compromise that... :flower:

and stop calling me names or i will eat you for lunch :flower:

What Janet did was a tasteless publicity stunt that violated FCC rules. The lingerie worn by the women, however, is an artistic statement in a way that breaks no rules.
ARTISTIC STATEMENT...???!!!! you've got to be kidding...

HAHAHAHA  :buzz:

PUH=LEASE...no one believes this is art, do they?...is anyone that naive?>>>

try PUBLICITY STUNT...disguised as a fashion show... :flower:
I meant artistic statement in regards to the clothes and wings. Whether or not there is a gorgeous, scantilly clad woman wearing them or not, people did have to spend time designing and engineering and making them.

And yes, maybe I am that naive, seeing as I'm fifteen...

Is there anywhere that you can purchase a video of the show? I missed this years and really would like to see it.....

Well yes its scantily clad, its panties and bras,

but lingerie is designed just like any other form of clothes do...a person sits, sketches, and sews these things. Fashion is anything you wear, you wear lingerie, Fashion is a form of art work through clothes, well lingerie is a type of clothes which makes it fashion which make it art....

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>I can appreciate a pretty pair of panties as much as I can a Louis Vuitton or a Versace skirt. :innocent: :P

P.S. Being naive has nothing to do with age...you can be old and be the most naive person.Believe me I know quite a bit of 20-30yr olds hell even 40 year olds who are absolutely clueless....it's usually even worse when it comes to my actual peers :ninja:

well then they should ban the carnival as well!when did we lose our sense of fun ad become such hypocrites?

I don't think it's hypocritical to slam the VS show while still condoning carnivals. I assume you're talking about Rio or something similar?

Carnivals like the one in Rio is a lot about skin, but it's festive and spontaneous, even though some participants spend months preparing. A more "natural" setting to display your goods, if you like. It's a big party! In some ways it's sexy and about sex, but it's a happening and a celebration. Anyone can join in, and it doesn't really matter what size you are and how much you're showing.
Agreed. They are not trying to sell their "goods." :innocent:
meooow
I think the vs and carnival are almost the same coz the vs show is more than a fashion show. Its a show whereby they invest alot in getting the sexiest models, best set, and add alot of effects to also the mood is more like carnival and whats more they are trying to sell lingerie for christ's sake you dont expect them to tell ann catherine to walk the ramp dressed in a blanket ala Prada!

btw i meant SEXY lingerie above and as far as an artistic statement i agree there are so many ways in which you can express yourself artistically provided you do it in a unique and original way and the vs presentation is unique and different~!

But nobody is banning the VS show, they decided to pull it themselves.

Victoria’s Secret Nixes TV Special

By Karyn Monget

NEW YORK — Is modesty the new strategy at Victoria’s Secret?

The $3.8 billion lingerie specialist has decided to can its $10 million fashion extravaganza — billed as TV’s “Sexiest Night” — and has also canceled its annual catwalk show for the fashion press.

The show — which began here in 1995 at the Plaza Hotel, moved to Wall Street in 1998, the Cannes Film Festival in 2000, Bryant Park in 2001 and the New York State Armory in 2002 and 2003 — had turned into a media feeding frenzy with scalpers reportedly selling tickets at up to $10,000 a clip.

In 1999, Victoria’s Secret staged its first live Web cast of the fashion show, with a reported audience of a billion people in over 100 countries, and in 2001, began broadcasting the show on TV, with an audience of over 12 million people.

A division of Limited Brands, Victoria’s Secret offered no-holds-barred sexuality for a mass TV audience (the show aired at 10 p.m.), even before Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera brazenly rollicked in music videos, and TV shows such as “Sex and the City” showed full-frontal nudity.

A Victoria’s Secret spokesman would not address the question of whether the company received pressure from the Federal Communications Commission, or whether women’s activist groups were instrumental in the decision to drop the show. He did say, however, that 25 percent of the decision was due to the “environment,” beginning in early January with the now infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during Janet Jackson’s breast-baring incident at the Super Bowl that was televised on CBS. The controversy was later fueled by federal regulators this month, who proposed fining Clear Channel Communications $495,000 for sexually explicit materials on the Howard Stern Show.

The Victoria’s Secret show habitually generated scores of complaints by viewers to the FCC, which three years ago investigated the brand for some of its on-air antics but later ruled they weren’t indecent.

Victoria’s Secret, whose sexy lingerie brand is well known from Boston to Baghdad, has plans to respin and market the brand into “something bigger, bolder and better in terms of bolstering the brand for holiday sales,” said the Victoria’s Secret spokesman. He would not elaborate other than to say, “At the end of the day, it’s about generating sales for holiday.” He said the company has its current TV commercial with Bob Dylan and is evaluating other opportunities to market the brand.

Ed Razek, Victoria’s Secret chief creative officer, was in leadership meetings Monday and could not be reached. However, in a statement he said: “The Victoria’s Secret show has served as a powerful marketing tool for the brand and our products. We’ve broken Internet viewing records and been the first network televised fashion show. Major achievements.”

Razek noted that in order to continue to grow the brand, “We constantly challenge our gift-giving through a new holiday campaign.”

Last year, Victoria’s Secret upped the ante for a second season on CBS, which presented the show like a Broadway musical with a cabaret-style vignette, laced with live performances by Sting, Mary J. Blige and Eve.

oh nooooooo!!!!!!! i love VC shows..whyyyy ohh why did Janet have to spoil everything  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one thing that must be brought into this conversation is that the fcc does have a lot to do with this show being cancelled. anyone who has worked in government knows that each government agency has pr departments and press departments just like any other business would. they control their image with the same meticulousness as a celebrity would. no gov't bureau wants to be seen having a direct hand in these things, but to forward their policies, they can apply pressure. while limited brands may never admit to anything direct, you can bet that the insurance rates on that show would have been outstanding...they couldn't prevent a peta protest last year, with all of the celebrities there, it's just asking for another janet-wardrobe-malfunction incedent.

we all know something is going to come along more outrageous than the janet thing...we felt it when britney and madonna did their smooch...we all asked what's next. i think that limited brands just made a calculated decision to take this show out as to not be the next target. the fcc is just waiting to find someone and you bet that there have already been closed door conversations between the networks, limited brands, and the feds...and i bet limited brands just couldn't do it. besides, it was all extravaganza anyway...i love when so many people rail against this fashion show when we all know it scores such high ratings...sex sells, it's time for america to stop being so in-the-closet about sexuality and come out against things like violence in the media...what if the fcc were cracking down on gratuitous violence in the same way they were coming against sex...most professional sports would be off the air tomorrow.

I agree with Mikel its not as simple as it seems. Also violence language and so many other things are slipping through the fcc they should also look into these things!
