Vogue Italia May 2014: Lexi Boling by Steven Meisel

OMG, I'm in love. What a strong cover. Absolutely everything is right about it. The colors, the layout, the styling. I even love the text. Best VI cover in SUCH A LONG TIME!

I have been living under a rock because this is the first time I've seen Lexi (that I'm aware). I am not a fan unfortunately. Meanwhile, Joan is freaking flawless in her editorial.

I wonder if Francoise Hardy was the inspiration for Meisel's story. Even the title...

I was thinking that too. If Francoise was the inspiration it is almost a shame they didn't use any of the all metal Paco Rabanne pieces to recreate the look of her in those classic photos

Old school cover, i love it  The issue is ok, but the cover story & the Joan's one save it.

i like the cover, it's nice ^_^ but very forgettable and all the eds as well

Joan's editorial is my favourite thing about this issue.

When looking at Lexi's editorial, all I see it Veruschka in some of her 60s Vogue edits. That's not a bad thing, it's actually awesome, but I would expect more creativity from Meisel & Templer.

very Francoise Hardy! kind of boring but I like it... This magazine really needs an alternative photographer who will give Meisel breaks...

Thank you, Zorka, for sharing!

"Soccer Supporter" in post 5 is Natasha Poly, no?

"Seductive Scents" in post 8 is Frida G?

from the treasure trove of images to cull from VOGUE ITs marvelous archives this is the best Sozzani & Co could come up with? what a joke.

the first ed is a really amateur riff on Tim Walkers's retro kitsch which belongs in the pages of US Glamour. then i'm treated to the some stale US allure beaut banality. then for good measure somethin from a GQ-esque fantasy of a sporty African-American goddess frolicking on the beach in a manner so over-photoshopped even the sand looks fake  The whole thing feels really forced, derivative and scatterbrained. nothing about the collection of images sheds new light or brings them together in a new context like a decent retrospective issue should do.

what exactly was the point? round up of the most mediocre fashion imagery and box it all in the most generic, uninspired, dated, unsophisticated layout possible? they succeeded!

sometimes they're supplements are more exciting than the main issue. not the case here. so far, not so good.
