Thanks for your reply Luxury's_Lap
You've made me want to read her biography. Is there a really good one i should read? Which is the one you read?
That's very interesting what you wrote about Lucy Liu and how really, Hollywood is still and for a long time will still be euro-centric.

Hi justlooking - I read Anna May Wong: From Laundryman's Daughter to Hollywood Legend. I was able to get a rather inexpensive one off of eBay, and amazon also has some copies for cheap as well. I thought it was very interesting. There's another biography on her too, Perpetually Cool: The Many Lives of Anna May Wong (1905-1961).

:woot: :o  The picture from the last page, post #113 just sold for $1,580.55!!!!! Minutes before it ended, it jumped from $456.00 to $1,555.00! Crazy!

I found another photo from her 1922 silent The Toll of the Sea (the rest are on page 2, post #21).

I found another one in the incredible set that cheiby11 posted on page 5, post 82....

Here's the blurb that came with it on eBay...(it sold for $510.00!)
Glossy portrait of the exotic Anna May Wong, sitting topless and playing with two animated monkeys. Wong actually appears to have been nude during the photo shoot, it was later that her bathing suit bottom was added in. This ultra-scarce photo is from when Wong was under contract to Hal Roach in the late 1920s. The photo has the Hal Roach Studio emblem embossed in the lower right corner of the photo. On back is an original typed blurb that says, Anna May Wong - Hal Roach comedy player."

Thanks for reviving this thread, scriptgirl!

:smile:doh:I always seem to have the same problem. I go to post pics (like in this thread, the Josephine Baker thread, or Garbo's thread), and despite having lots of pics already, I roam around, searching for more, and don't end up posting any.)

Candid of Ms. Wong in London, 1934.

She plays Mrs. Pyke in "A Study in Scarlet" (Sherlock Holmes ). It is in the public domain now, so you can see the movie here.

What do you mean, it's in the public domain? Aren't all movies in the public domain?

Most U.S. movies are protected by the owners under copyright. Some are relegated to the public domain, meaning the copyright has expired. For example, here is a public domain online film archive that accesses free movies from many sources. Verified public domain films, videos and other media can be watched and downloaded for free. www.archive.org is one of my favorite sites.

I also found The Toll of the Sea (1922) on YouTube.
