Pastelle by Kanye West

I'm not sure he wants to be an intern - as we hear intern ... But I guess he wants to spend time around Raf Simons to learn about the process of a collection (or the process for a pattern ?! why not ... )

I don't really care about Kanye W. doing a fashion line ... What I don't understand is why any celebritiy who likes fashion wants to do a fashion line ?! my god. what it is, if it's not for money and to spread their "label-name" on the world for the future ?!?! (i may have answer myself the question ...) Because there are tailors in a lot of capital cities, non ?! so basically they can have whatever they want everywhere ?!

I mean there are already enough designers around here ...
NO need for a big celeb' to hide the (media) coverage of 10 small designers ....

Music doesn't sell because of downloading, so they turn to things that do....fashion, energy drinks, perfume, restaurants, night clubs, etc etc. IMO it's hurting the music industry more than the fashion industry.

I really do like Kanye and hope he succeeds in any of his endeavours. Frankly, there are worse offenders (I'm thinking Diddy, Beyonce), but some great points have been made on the general subject of celebs-turned-designers in this thread.

If Kanye wanted so badly to be in fashion, he should've worked to be, not waited until he had international fame to cash in on. And that whole "I've always wanted to be in fashion" thing is what every celebrity designer seems to say. Regardless of whether it's true or not, it doesn't come off as very sincere or meaningful when it's coming from people who waited until after they made a name for themselves doing something entirely different to take the leap. People who really and truly want to get into fashion, design or otherwise, don't start a music career before they do it.

And I'd like to reiterate that liking fashion doesn't mean you should be a designer. That's why fashion school is so important, because without it you can't know if you really do love designing or just love the fantasy of what being a designer is.

Absolutely! They all say that they had an interest in fashion from the very beginning. They all schmooze and hobnob with the designers because they get a lot out of it in terms of publicity (depending on the celeb, this pays off for both parties). They get their pics on style.com, front-row seats at the shows, and just maybe some pseudo-sense of credibility in the fashion industry or validation as a "style icon". "Look! They're not just singing/rapping about designers labels, they're BFF with Marc Jacobs! And Anna Wintour!" I just don't think this is a true indicator of a genuine interest in fashion. Even worse if he actually said that music wasn't his true passion or implied that it was a stepping stone to something else.

As already mentioned, I doubt that he would want to (or have to) do the actual duties that come with a real fashion internship/apprenticeship. As with anytime I hear about celebs doing their homework before entering into a new field, I'm not going to pat someone on the back for doing what anyone should be doing -- learning and getting their hands dirty.

I suppose there is only so far some can go in their chosen field in terms of fulfillment and I can't fault someone for seizing opportunities they perhaps would not be afforded without their previous success (as he probably wouldn't get the chance to work alongside an established designer without being a star in the music industry). However, particularly when one is at the (foreseeable) height of their career, it just reeks of trying to raise one's profile -- everyone wants to be a legend, a jack-of-all-trades, a bonafide star, if not richer than rich! If it isn't Hollywood + acting, it's the fashion industry + designing (sometimes both, ugh!).

Raf Simons talks about the same topic that is discussed here. like if you should only stick to what you can do best and got known for or work in/ with different mediums...

of course its unfair for talented 'normal' persons that someone like Kanye can get into a company like that just because he is prominent. But that is no reason to blame Kanye... he should do if he really loves to.
life often is unfair.

I'm not sure about most celebs, but I do think Victoria Beckham is truly passionate about fashion. Ever since the Spice Girls, she'd talk about her love of clothes. I wish everyone could make money doing what they enjoy.

i had a closer look on his blog and have to say i dont like it.
these categories like cars and pinup girls and newest electronics come up a bit dumb and humiliating, imo. and this streetwear is really beyond boredomness. noone needs it.

but i dont like if you have to stuck in one category. for example if you are a young famous actor and always made music. then you come up with your band, the press is interested in it. many people would say the band is only known because of the famous actor and he should only keep acting...

yeah he can come across as a bit arrogant sometimes but the man definitely does his homework! he seems genuinely interested. looking forward to seeing more of his stuff!

Well there's an understatement, lol.

I'm am not a fan of the sportswear pieces, but some of the formal stuff , like the blazers looks semi-promisingat best. But, I can't see past kanye's ego, though his music is rather good, this clothing line doesn't seem to hold the same promise

i think if any celeb turned designer has a shot at making a lasting impression its him. i get the feeling that at he would be meticulous about everything, cant say the same for beckham. and hell he has had a rough start, if now he wants to diversify into something else, let 'em

Looks pretty boring to me. Hoodies and more jackets with ugly fonts and logos...yuck.

Celebrity is pretty much anathema to me, esp. when there are enormous egos involved...it must feel amazing to never feel like you are overreaching your abilities.

Forget clothing, does anyone know where I can buy some yes-men cheaply?:P
