POP #50 S/S 2024

Vittoria, or how someone can make forget Gisele ever existed before. Like Gisele's three covers, with some specially designed love for the third one. Though. Though... Though, Vittoria came with some unexpectedly simple portraits on those same covers. Got there and own(ed?) that place. Stroke my eyes and left that mark. And "me" can't get enough, beautifully done, even too simple and / or convenient. Just a shot of lovable visual for a former magazine junkie. Brilliant. That kind that would me dive again into bankcrupcy to get some more 200+ pages glossy if promises made really paper dreams.... Kind of strangely put, kind of utterly sentimental, somehow, kind of why I went into magazine collection. Kind of. Whatever whoever wants. Just having a welcomed thrill and not about to let that feeling go. No matter how cheap and overdone it is. I dig it, I take it, I blatantly love it.

Some unnamed photographer called this season 'the Amelia Gray season'. Joke aside, it's mind-boggling how a Onlyfans/your average influencer/porny-looking face can make it this high in fashion. Nepo-vibes matter.

All of these covers released thus far can't hold a candle to Gisele Bündchen's three. Still completely besotted with Gisele, just as much as I was the first time I laid eyes on her. What a knockout! Truly incomparable. My most fave out of the three is the second, but I do love how reminiscent the first is of Emmanuelle Alt's Vogue Paris.

While I was quite thrilled by some Gisele covers and even more Vittoria's, while Amelia's were good surprises, it's like we're getting into the less interesting, less striking ones. Sascha Rajasalu's is quite interesting in terms of aesthetics, but Liu Wen's last one is simply tragic. How come did they have such a great model, one of her own kind, and did her that dirty way? Guess that this is the deal with multiple covers (like an endless trail of covers, hey...), guess that doesn't leave them enough time to care about the visuals they over-promote online. Guess they don't even really care. Sad, because this thread started well, and kept a decent-to-high level for some time. And now? Easy come's and easy go's. Random galore.

I'm not against a wild bunch of covers, even if I prefer a strong statement over a ton of proposals, but if they go this route, I'd love 'em to remain the pilot of their engine instead of getting off the path, so-so easy-easily. It's not enough, and never will be, to drop a few standouts and, then, drown them into some mish-mashed cornucopia of meaningless so-called alternative options. Guessing it's the usual toll when some mag tries to please everyone with his/her/their guilty pleasures. Going through some failures, always like a first time... Though it's been years they're on a repeat-mode when it comes to first timers.

Really? Looks like someone is bored to death at Pop

All the newsagents near me closed after covid, I can only subscribe or buy magazines online, the more covers an issue churns out, the less chance of ever getting the one you want sent out to you... decide against purchase.
