Claude Montana Dead at 76

Claude Montana, the French designer who defined power-woman dressing in the 1980s, has died at the age of 76.

Very much remember him from the 80s. Those big shoulders and cinched waists. The buttery leather.

When I started to have an awareness of fashion, through the pages of late-80s magazines, the silhouettes of Claude Montana and Thierry Mugler made me realise there was a whole other world out there, beyond anything I was seeing around me.

Wallis Franken, I haven't heard her name mentioned in years. Vanity Fair did a feature on her life and her relationship with Montana that's worth a read.

Saw a picture today of Betty Lago (a Brazilian legend who's also passed away) wearing Montana and didn't realize that was the reason.

May he rest in peace. A true legend!
