I need some help in finding some good documentaries about fashion. Anything really. All from the life of Chanel, to known photographers, Fashion Editors and more...

Any clue?

Regards,

Camilo

I liked The Secret World of Haute Couture. it's a BBC documentary that 'explains' the process of haute couture, the reasoning behind the prices and the people who make it, buy it and why. it's very interesting and quite recent, it was filmed during the S/S 06 Haute Couture season, I believe.

my favorite is a little gift I recently got from MissMagAddict :smile:heart:smile:, it's called 'Notebook on Cities & Clothes', it's the most beautiful and eye-opening film about fashion that I have ever seen, it's directed by Wim Wenders, shot in the late 80s and it's basically about the world of Yohji Yamamoto... his life, thoughts on society, his vision on fashion, what he goes through when putting together a collection.. all that jazz. it's lovely and definitely worth every minute and cent of it. :crush:

I especially love Signe Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent 5 avenue Marceau 75116 Paris

nope sorry .. i didnt even have chance to watch that one my self either :( aparently its free with aussy vogue tho

^ Yeah, I've been waiting for that issue to arrive to Barnes&Noble. That's the only reason I am going to buy that mag! I have the Spanish version of Lagerfeld Confidentiel, but unfortunately, yo no comprendo Espanol

I just saw "Marc Jacobs + Louis Vuitton" last week and I have to say, it was fantastic. Regardless of whether you like or loathe Marc, it offers an entirely realistic view of what it's like putting out a collection and putting on a runway show.

It shows the real side of fashion design, sleepless nights, stressful days, deadlines....plus, it offers some really wonderful insight into his normally cryptic way of designing.

I second that :flower:

LOVE

"Signe Chanel" (of course)
"Secret World of Haute Couture"
"Viktor & Rolf - Because We're Worth it"

I REALLY want to see "Marc Jacobs + Louis Vuitton"!!!

Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton is one of the greatest fashion docs out there, definitely! Of course, it was made by Loic Prigent, the same creator of Signe Chanel. I've learned great things about Marc Jacobs and how he creates his collections. And the documentary even showed how he created that limited edition tribute patchwork handbag he made for the LV SS07 collection!

I love all of the above. I saw Lagerfeld when it came out in New York and it was incredible. I think I have watched Marc Jacobs + Louis Vuitton 1000 times. I never get tired of it.

People need to make more fashion documentaries.

I completely agree. I would love to see a documentary about the House of Balenciaga and Nicolas Ghesquiere. I think that would be the most amazing fashion documentary...ever. But I doubt there will be one because Balenciaga has always been keeping a low profile. So for now that would be one of the most coveted documentaries.

This makes me feel better about the number of times I have seen Signe Chanel...

I was watching Iconoclasts on the Sundance Channel today, and the episode featured Stella McCartney and Edward Rausch. It wasn't exactly a documentary, but it sort of felt like one in the way she was describing aspects of her design process. Worth seeing.

These are kind of old, but good with lots of footage of 90s fashion and the supermodels
Unzipped
Catwalk with Christy Turlington

Notebooks on Cities and Clothes is very good also
