The 90s Comeback

Ah yes girls wearing knotted shirts. They were really popular with tube tops. It was a guys dream to go out on a date and she wear a knotted shirt...It was a really big tease because all he could think about was untieing the knot and sliding the tube top down... But that was in the 70s also. It seems like "CCHarlie's Angels" wore that look...

501 Jeans Um... I bought some in before 1980 and never stopped. Is there any other kind to wear for guys?

I love that the 90's are back! It makes me so happy, I know it's not so long ago but seeing these trends being worn again makes me realise that in the 90's everyone was still banging on about the 60's, 70's and 80's style being so iconic and how the 90's just didn't match up. Now I think that since it's coming back it's like we have a second chance to fully go for it and appriciate it. It makes me feel like a kid again! I adore flannel. There are some bad numbers out there but when it's done right it's gorge. I also am pretty heavy in the grunge phase. I love the music and the whole look. I've always had a bit of grunge about me (there is nothing worse than contrived grunge) now I feel like I can fully go for it though.

i really don't like the comeback, i think it's way too early.
+ i'm a nineties kid, the fashion from that decade repeating itself just means i'm getting old :P

totally! they should never have gone away...but the problem will be a poor come back not in its essence but just in its basic forms

I feel the 80s and 90s coming back are fine as the only memories I have of the 80s are non-existent and all I remember from the 90s is the Spice Girls -admittedly not a great memory.

ugh, spice girls. if people start wearing those awful platform boots like they did.. i might run for cover.

This would probably be where I'd defend (on the notion of the '90s and the Spice Girls) the '90s here, but since I've posed the same counter, I won't counter that statement to an extreme degree. I'll just leave it as... "at least the [mid-late] '90s it's not an '80s that everyone brown noses all the time like it's not a problem." Sometimes, the worst memories of one decade of fashion are better than re-hashing the same worn-out styles of another. Decade trends like this is basically a case of accepting both the good and bad of a decade style-wise. No one decade has the best fashion from top to bottom. Some are going to love the '70s for platform shoes, but hate them for afros or hot pants. Likewise... the '90s had a few colorful pieces, but many frowned upon the looks inspired by Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

But for me, anything besides kissing the '80s backside is fine by me.

now that the 80s came and went, i see that the 90s is coming back slowly.

ive seen overalls on catwalks as well as plaid..highrise jeans and skirts are also sign of 90s comeback.

feel free to discuss and post pics..what do you think, will this trend stay for awhile or is it just a fad? what are your 90s likes and dislikes?

i definately dont wanna see grunge again... :P but highrise trend i like...

very true. grunge style 90's wear is in full force. top shop is a good example that mixes both 80's and 90's style.

In a month I will be photographed for a mag here for 90s style...and I really don't know what to say in the interview other than uhm, as I child I used to watch too much TV :D Shows like Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, My So Called Life, Buffy, Baywatch, Clueless etc etc....all I did was stay in for the whole summer in front of TV :D

Which mag? Can't wait to see!

Another thing I remember about '90s style was that we only wore silver jewelry. I remember being horrified by gold and goldtone jewelry and thinking that it was only for conservative old ladies or tacky men. All the jewelry I liked was silver -- rings with semi-precious stones, silver ear cuffs.

There was also a hippie revival at some point...I think it was early '90s. The poet blouses mentioned up thread, plus bell-bottoms, crocheted things (like hats and vests) and peace sign jewelry. Crochet in general was ubiquitous.

Hair was often either center-parted or had a deep side part with volume.

The 90s can't come back as pure as they were cause people has not that sense of out of sense... now we rescue this and that but its just fashion on a robot sense... not a fashion cultural movement or something... I mean the second parts were never as good...or so they say... revivals...its just nostalgia... isn't it?

I agree. It's pretty much all about recycling old and more or less successful formulas these days. No innovation but more imitation.

I think it can be innovating to pair certain 90s "looks" with more modern things. I don't think anyone wants to go back to every single trend the 90s had, but there are some that mix well with other current staples-- a long plaid shirt with skinnies and docs, messy hair..drawing from the grunge side at least. and i like the crop tops that have been springing up, paired with high-waisted jeans (no bellybutton showing). I think that putting new twists on old ideas is very innovating.

can someone please tell me what the name of this 90s hat is?or where i can buy one? thanks#

The 80s were generally unflattering. Almost no one looks back and says 'dang I looked good in 1982'.

The 90s are another story. There is some great inspiration to be had. Both fashionable and musically speaking.
Are you serious?
For me, it's just the opposite. The 80s was a tacky decade fashion-wise, but it had its particular styles that can only be associated with the 80s. In fact the 80s was the last decade to have any particular noteworthy looks and fashion styles associated with it. Unlike the 90s, which was a mishmash of "anything goes" fashion and short-lived trends.
