2011 Emmy Nominations

The 2011 Emmy Award nominations were announced today by Melissa McCarthy, who found herself nominated for her work on Mike & Molly, and Joshua Jackson. Here's a short list to start things off, which we'll be updating throughout the day as the full list of nominees is announced (they're available in less convenient slideshow form at Emmys.com too) . Surprises included a first-time nomination for Parks & Recreation as Best Comedy series, a nod to Louis C.K. as Best Actor in a Comedy for his series Louie, and a spot for Martha Plimpton in Best Actress in a Comedy in Raising Hope, one of the only freshman shows from the recent season to make it at all. The Big Bang Theory, which has been a hit for years, is also enjoying its first-ever nomination as Best Comedy Series.

So happy for Big Bang Theory in Best Comedy but where is Community. As much as I love 30 Rock it's had it's day and as for The Office I can't believe they won't just let it die.

Community was robbed.

This is BS. What does Courtney Cox have to do to get recognized? First Friends. Now Cougar Town. The funniest show on TV. The Best Lead Female Comedy performance on TV. Gets snubbed, AGAIN. Also Busy Phillips. And the show itself.

That's my biggest issue with the Emmys, they don't know where to stop. If they're 'into' a show they give it like 20 nominations (Modern Family didn't deserve half of its nominations, sorry to say; same with Glee). But real gems go unnoticed for years if not for ever. :(

I'm so happy to see all the nominations for Mildred Pierce and Yay for Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey.
I'm hoping Maggie Smith wins!

The Emmys nominate the same shows over and over again regardless of whether or not those shows had a particularly good season. Plus they seem to just give annual nominations to the same people. It gets boring. Especially when there's a lot of great stuff out there.

:lol: Has it been a year since I rant about no Community nominations? And now they skipped it again :censored:

AMY POEHLER! :clap::buzz:

I'm just glad FNL is finally getting the love it so deserves. I know there's no chance in hell them getting the win but it's nice for the Connie and Kyle and the show to get recognised by the Emmys.

But isn't frustrating that a show should have to wait so long to get so much as a nomination so that the same old shows can be nominated again and again?

why do I have a feeling that the shows which get nominations are always the same?

Really pleased to see Idris Elba picking up two nominations. I think Jon Hamm is deserving 10 times over by now, can't believe he's never won, Don Draper is one of the most iconic characters of TV in the last decade. Chuffed Justified is getting some attention but again they've over-looked Sons of Anarchy. It's too dark and gritty for the Emmy voters I think but I had hoped that perhaps the tide was changing after Katey Segal's GG win. Still from a Brit point of view I'm thrilled with Downton's reception.

It seems that the Primetime Emmys this year are once again more about the appeal of the characters than the talent of the actors. That Bill Paxton has been left without a nomination for Big Love every year - this year most of all - is just unforgivable. At the same time, I like Hugh Laurie and he's been consistently good as House (outstanding in the early seasons), but I can't help but wonder if his nomination this year (as perhaps with some of the other years as well) has more to do with the continuing appeal of Gregory House than any particularly extraordinary performance from Laurie this season.

Just saw the recorded live nomination announcement on youtube, love Melissa! :heart:

i dunno,there were a few great and unique characters we were introduced to last season that could have been well deserved nods. from john benjamin hickey's scene stealing role as "sean" on the big c to merritt wever,who albeit wasn't new,has such a fantastic supporting role as hilarious "zoey" on nurse jackie. i'm in agreement with some of you....seems to be there was a lot to choose from this year but all i keep seeing is glee and modern family. and while modern family is funny i think it's all rather overkill by now. and as much as i love mad men,that one too.

and i'm bitterly disappointed that kyra sedgwick after winning last year was left off of this year's roster. yet mariska hargitay was nominated once again and wasn't nearly as compelling as she normally is. but i suspect as usual that has more to do with typical hollywood politics seeing as this is the final season of the closer.
