My thoughts:
- Downton Abbey really ruined the Drama category. I really didn't like the second series. So bad. I do like Michelle Dockery's nomination, however. And Joanne Froggatt's!
- Happy to see Connie Britton again
- Nick Offerman snubbed yet again
- They seem to love really generic comedies (but there are also some really great comedies there). It's Always Sunny..., Community, Parks are nowhere to be seen in the Comedy Series category. At least Veep was nominated!
- Louis C.K.!
- Homeland! Poor Mandy Patinkin, though.
- Anna Gunn! Anyone from Breaking Bad!
- Vincent Kartheiser and Joel Kinnaman were snubbed.
- Go Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Sarah Paulson!
- Merritt Wever. Such an inspired nomination!

Add Happy Endings to that. I can't believe that sh*tshow Big Bang Theory with its awful laugh track gets nominated and these other great shows are left out. Jim Parson is good but that's about it.

This scene alone made me laugh more than any episode episode ever of BBT

And not to mention the Modern Family cast hogging the best sup actor comedy nominations. Apparently all you have to do is to be an adult regular on that show to get in (I'm especially rolling my eyes at veteran Ed O'neil). What about Danny Pudi? Or Damon Wayans Jr? Or anyone from It's Always Sunny? Though I'm used to It's always sunny being shunned even though it's one of the most consistently good comedies out there.

Also wished Eliza Coupe could get in for Happy Endings, she is hilarious as Jane. And I'm still raging at my queen Kaitlin Olson not getting recognized. She is easily one of the funniest ladies on television.

I love seeing there Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Mad Men and Breaking Bad getting a lot of nominations but where is House MD? I though they'd leave with a bang :(

SHE. IS. ROBBED.

THAT. IS. ALL.

:cry::hardhead::furious:

^ I love her! But on the upside I'm happy to see some 30 Rock nominations. Really happy for Game of Thrones, Shameless & American Horror Story. I do not watch much tv but from previews/commercials alone I'm surprised by some of the noms.

Walking dead, was SO SNUBBED. Definetly should have been nominated for more instead of "Best makup" "Best visual effects" ect.

But all the other noms seem pretty good

So happy for Breaking Bad!
Especially seeing Mark Margolis being nominated for a role in which he did not speak at all :D
I hope Aaron Paul wins best supporting actor. He is so young but he has grown so much

lovekatfashion,i feel your pain. walking dead was superb this last season. totally ignored.

also a bit annoyed that web therapy didn't get nominated for anything in the main categories....not even in the guest star category. i mean, lily tomlin as her mother....funniest sequences i saw last year.

happy more than anything for merrit weaver, though. she is so funny on nurse jackie.

Aaron Paul must win again for Breaking Bad.......brilliant character, superb actor.
Would also like to see Archie Panjabi win again for The Good Wife.
Thought Cheryl Hines might a get a look-in for comedy best supporting actress for Suburgatory....and loving Krysten Ritter in Don't trust the B**** in Apt 23.
I think some of the newer comedies might get some attention next year.

how about Scandal? Its nice to see missing nominted for lead actress despite being cancelled after a brief run, it was an awesome show

Super excited for Downton Abbey! :woot: I'm also rooting for Benedict and Idris (as long as one of them wins, I'm good with it), Boardwalk Empire, Dinklage, and Luther. Scandal was snubbed though, and although GoT is an ensemble, Dillane deserved some love as well as Dinklage.

I haven't been watching much television this year (I'm a movie addict), but I'm really glad to see all the nominations for Game Change. I watched that a few days ago and everything was just spot on.

Scandal was renewed, not cancelled. I've never read anything about it being cancelled, only renewed.

From Wikipedia:
The program was renewed for a second season on May 11, 2012, in the same Thursday timeslot, while Private Practice remains in the new Tuesday evening timeslot to finish its final season[13]. Rhimes has stated that the second season will likely be thirteen episodes or less.[14][15]

He was talking about Missing being cancelled. He asked about Scandal and then made a comment about Missing getting a nomination for lead actress despite being cancelled.

My thoughts:

-Glad to see Homeland in there. I think Claire Danes is almost a lock for her catagory and deservedly so. She's amazing in that role. Her depiction of her characer's mental illness is both harrowing and sympathetic. I do think Mandy Patinkin was snubbed. I'm not his biggest fan, but I think he's really good as Saul: it's just a more restrained, less showy role.

-Thrilled with the Downton Abbey love. I know the second season has drawn some criticism for being too soapy. I see where that's coming from regarding some of the storylines, and the sheer number of characters, but I still love it. I'm especially happy to see Michelle Dockery nominated. I think she made Mary's maturing over the past two series seem real and believable. The character grew and changed a lot this season.

-I would've liked to have seen a nod for John Noble in Fringe, but that was always a bit of a fantasy since there's a bias against sci-fi shows. In a perfect world Anna Torv might also have had a shot.

-Emmy Rossum was robbed for Shameless. Her performance on that show holds all the crazieness together in a place of reality and emotion and is easily one of the top six female drama performances. Unfortunately the show itself falls into that messy "dramady" catagory: even though it's submitted as drama it's just as easy to consider it a black comedy.

-I don't understand how they differentiate between series and miniseries. I'd have considered Sherlock, Luther, and An American Horror Story to be series.

-It seems like they just nominate Michael C. Hall out of habit. I love Dexter, he's great on it and has definitely deserved the nod in past seasons but this past year wasn't the show's best by any means...

-I just noticed two nominations for Kathy Bates. I like her but did she deserve a nod for Harry's Law over some of the other great performances out there?

^ Quite surprised by Kathy Bates nomination.......thought Merielle Enos might sneak in there for The Killing.
Just want to add that if Claire Danes doesn't win best drama actress, there is no justice.

Miniseries, in Emmys and US terms, usually refers to shorter shows. Whereas most of the regular American ones are 20+ episodes long, most of the UK ones aren't, so they're grouped as miniseries most of the time. Downton is a bit of an odd one. This is probably due to its rising popularity and the critics' belief that they were shafted as a miniseries for last year.

Except so many of the nominated US shows these days are only 12 episodes per season (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Homeland, Damages, etc).

Miniseries are usually long films released in 2-6 "episodes" (in past years these have included Mildred Pierce, John Adams, Angels in America etc). After the given number of episodes are through, the miniseries is over. It doesn't get renewed and come back the next year to continue the story.

However now they seem to be including UK series that may have a short number of episodes but will be continued next year. They're also including An American Horror Story, which has a full 12 episode season, and is coming back in the fall with another 12 episode season. I think the only reason that they've put it in the miniseries catagory is that the plot line isn't continuous from one year to the next (so it's more of an anthology with one season representing one entry in the anthology)

I think Downton Abbey should have been in the series catagory last year as well. It was always intended as a continuous story over the course of several years. I think Sherlock and Luther should be considered series as well, because they're continuous storylines taking place over several seasons, regardless of the number of episode per season. An American Horror Story is a bit trickier due to the nature of the show (as an anthology). But if Saturday Night Live is considered a comedy series, An American Horror Story should be considered a drama series.
