Fahrenheit 9/11

I don't know about movies but there is a book called Michael Moore is a fat stupid white man. I think it's by the same guy who keeps hacking his website so I don't really think it's any good.
mmm...yah...!...doesn't exactly sound like a genius...

u know what...even if only 2% of what is shown in this film is fact...the gist is VERY MUCH a reality...the United States is not as righteous, openminded, and just as we claim to be...anyone who says differently is either naive or lying to themselves...

anyway...i'm so glad the majority of the people who saw the film and/or replied to the thread felt the same way i did :flower:

Of course! But people should already know that. It bothers me that some people only listen if it comes from the mouth of a celebrity rather than educating themselves. All the hate bothers me too... nobody wants to listen to any centre views because it's not left wing yet I doubt most people would want to give up their luxuries to live in the ideal socialist state.

Shouldn't you be out spending your parent's money and driving the luxury economy?
How bout I spend some of it on you? I'll get you a ticket to see the film since you so adamantly stated that you wont cough up the $5 yourself on "principle."

(p.s. where do your principles come from anyway? The immature hyporcrit value system?)

This movie educates just as well as the news if not better. I doubt anyone will change thier political views because a celebrity says something.

Agreed. It is funny that Banana is saying that she thinks people should educate themselves and not just listen to the media, yet she hasnt seen the movie and has made all her judgments about things she has read and seen on TV.....

mmmmmmm k.

when did michael moore graduate from liberal indie film-maker to 'celebrity'...he's this big, heavy dorky guy...not exactly everyone's aspiration...i don't think anyone is blindly following him...it's just refreshing to hear another point of view in the media... :flower:

and i couldn't agree more captain jack...now what are we going to do about it?... :flower:

Exactly my point. Why not get your information from a reputable news source instead of Michael Moore?
what news source?
i can confirm that BBC, CNN, Fox tell only one side of the story.
you guys have no idea what the americans (no offence to you guys....im talking about the polititians) have done in afghanistan and iraq.

since you'll never be revealed the real truth by any officials, i suggest you watch Farenheit 9/11! or else youre just being narrow minded with thee 'we're the best and we dont care what goes on around the world as long as we're safe' attitude!

please watch it. you owe it to your soldiers and the millions of people your soldiers have killed in iraq and afghanistan

unfortunately, a lot of people do not already know that...and IMO movies like this may inspire or provoke these people to educate themselves...

furthermore, watching and enjoying this movie does not mean you accept everything it suggests as the absolute truth..(sure, there may be people that are influenced more than others, but that isn't michael moore's fault...in the end, everyone has a brain of their own)...this movie is just a way for people to see an issue of critical importance from an alternative perspective ...only hearing one side (ie. the side covered by the news media) can be really dangerous IMO

as for me, i couldn't really care less about the facts critics are claiming to be misrepresentated in film (i.e.whether or not congress has family in the military)...all of that is just filler IMO...the REAL issue is that innocent people (from all areas of the world) are being killed because of impulsive, dirty, unjust politics

finally, it bothers me that there are people who refuse to see the film claiming most of it to be false just because a so called "celebrity" made it... are celebrities incapable of speaking any truth? performing research? having a valid opinion?

that is the question my dear softgrey, that is the question...

for starters, "we" (me and whoever else wants to do something about it) need to vote George Bush out of office

I was referring more to the gaggle of celebrities of celebrities who are supporting him or who have suddenly jumped on the anti-bush (not Susan Sarandon or Sean Penn because they've always been speaking out against Bush). I mean where were all these people even a year ago when their support really mattered? I always knew that Bush was lying about the war but I also knew a LOT of people who thought that the war was necessary at the time. Does it really take a movie to explain the obvious to people? What does THAT say about American culture more than anything? And what about the the millions of Americans living at the poverty level who can't even afford the $12 to see it at the their local megaplex theatre? If this movie is so educational as everyone says then it is, shouldn't it be subsidized for the large percentage of the American poplulation that has no voice and suffers most from Bush's actions?

Sure, but don't make arrogant speaches about the goverment telling lies if there are lies in your movie (talking about his oscar acceptance speach). I think you can agree that if Michael Moore's books and movies were presented for acedemic review he'd be ripped to shreds. Yet he is interviewed on the news more often than respected acedemics in that field who could also have something intelligent to say.

Don't worry about me MJ, I can afford my own ticket. Plus I've been against Bush since he was the Govenor of Texas and I'm not even American. Sell your Stella bags and take a bunch of people from Harlem or the Bronx and then I will shut up.

I see you ignored the post where I commented on the fact that you think it is ridiculous for people to rely on the media for their information. You haven't seen the movie, you are trusting newspapers and CNN with all of your knowledge. You are being very immature, first by taking it to a personal level where this discussion never should have gone, and then by not knowing how to admit you were wrong. Have you ever even been to Harlem or the Bronx? I didn't think Canadian tourism books showcased anything above 60th Street. . I love how people who aren't from New York love to talk about those areas like they know anything about it, they are the same people who think Brooklyn is the "ghetto."

That's true. Banana, why did you take it to the personal level? Not only such discussions get nowhere, they stray away from the original topic.
