Fashion as Art .... From Museum to Runway and Back?

Thanks for the info, piep. I'm starting to really like Schiaparelli:flower:

I'm really liking especially the artist's paintings, which are used as prints. It really goes well like this!
I wonder if there's any issue with copyright? My previous post above^, the prints are exact to Escher's prints. So, a person can't say it's "inspired by an artist"... Also, Escher's timeline is from 1898-1972, so he'd already passed away by the time the dresses are made???

If you want to see the actual websites of the dresses:

i am not williamson fan, but i love those jersey dresses!

hi goya, i also couldn't find an exact painting for the ysl design, but this guitar from juan gris is similar. gris, braque and picasso where quite difficult to distinguish for a certain period of time, take a look (also picture source:(

Thanks for the link, piep. Their works seem really similar, I guess they might have influences on each other. ^_^

As to the runway version of the artist's works, I actually think those inspired ones better than the direct using of prints. Always like something that's more creative.

i had never seen those escher print dresses, gius, thanks for sharing!
and it's actually a shame that we don't have an elsa schiaparelli thread in d&c!:innocent:
thanks for the scans, piep!

maybe it's just me but...:innocent:

A blouse from Viktor & Rolf, fall 2000 (notably their ready-to-wear debut).

And the inspiration behind it: a Franz Gertsch painting from 1975.

Runway photos are mysteriously absent from all the usual sources; my apologies.
No I haven't found an image from the runway (like the title here suggests), but I still want badly to contribute  I thought I'd post again anyway, since those pics no longer show, as you can -not- see. And also because I found one of Tilda Swinton wearing the thing (surely that will make up for everything?) :woot:

Plus I still really  it

Like on the first page of this thread,
there are a lot of references to 20th century painters
in Donna Karen's Spring/Summer 2006 collection.

Here are some more examples...
The Korean text notes down some of the artists in the prints of these pieces: Paul Klee, Jackson Pollock

Karma to you Goya :flower:. This takes me BACK to my Art History class.

Btw question guys: What era do you think has influenced the past two collections for this year?

Her top has the pattern of Guernica. I know its not the best pic, but its the only one i could find!!
