And, there's a designer outlet.. Voi, along the side of the QVB.. 2 levels of a building with all authentic stuff, luck of the draw. lots of clothes, some accessories.. I once got tons of Helmut Lang shoes there for $90 ea!

Fashion in Australia?

Hey Everybody!

I´ll be in Sydney next week and I wonder if anybody could give me some shopping tips. Are there any cool Australian brands? I´m very slim,so I like Dior Homme,Number(N)Ine,Stephan Schneider,Lad Musician etc. Maybe this kind of fashion is not very popular over there,but maybe I´ll be lucky(^-^)~
I´m also interested in cool domestic skincare or hip spots in the city.

hey as far as i know none of the labels you listed above are even available in sydney. I think the fashion scene here is alot more casual with a street wear focus. You might like Tsubi which makes skinny jeans (sydney is flooded with them) as for stores you might want to check out Filthy Lucre on oxford street or The Picket Fence store in Darlinhurst.
There is also a shop called Incu in the Victoria Galleries which sells some cool t shirts and stuff.. Im not familiar with stephan schnieder but i havent seen much in syd that looks similar to dior or lad musician

Van Hua had a vision in 2003 to create a retail outlet specialising in innovative and daring men’s fashion. His Picket Fence Store was born of a
need to educate Sydney men about international standards of style. After a successful start, the store built a name for itself incorporating brands such as manvious, Erica America, material boy, pop issue and Michael. Recommended stores/areas:
Queen Street, Woollahra:
- One of the prettiest streets in Sydney by far
- Stores include Attic (Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, etc), Nicola Finetti (Australian designer, he does a lot of nice dresses), Tim O'Connor, Orson and Blake (homewares downstairs, upstairs they stock international and Australian designers like Akira Isowaga, Hugo Boss, Sambag ballet flats etc not a huge range but quite a nice selection with a huge price range)
- Bistro Moncur: yummy French food, quite rich though. Food in Sydney is really great and diverse by the way. This place is perfect to eat during winter (it is pretty cold in Sydney right now)
- Bill's: very famous, very 'Sydney' cafe food. The corn fritters and the scrambled eggs are famous. Very basic, very yummy food. Gets really busy on weekends though so best to go on a weekday.

Around the corner on Oxford street...
- Fleur Wood www.fleurwood.com very pretty grly designs, prices are pretty good too
- Mimco: jewellery, very popular in Australia, I have a lot of their crystal bow items
- Incu: stocks Australian, New Zealand and International designers, including Marc by Marc Jacobs, Camilla & Marc, Alice McCall, Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester etc. It's the only stockist for Mala Brajkovic - very highly recommended, she does some really great designs however her S/S is a bit meh, her fall/winter is better.
- Zimmermann: very 'Sydney' designs, flirty dresses, very popular here
- Max Brenner: very Sydney again, basically everything they do has chocolate eg huge choice of hot chocolates, frappes, some dessert like waffles, etc. Very busy at night

William street - off Oxford street
- Just William chocolates - chocolate store
- Belinda: one of a couple of stores in Sydney, one of the 'iconic' Sydney stores stocking international and local designers
- Corner Shop: younger sister of Belinda. I :L: it. Has Biba, Miu Miu, Lover, Acne Jeans, Vanessa Bruno, etc etc. Has a larger store in Strand Arcade in the city.
- Poepke: stocks mens and womens, has a lot of Belgium designers

^sure! shop at the above stores if you have hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to spend!
the rest of us shop in George st or Pitt st... but that's a great description of stores. Although you left out Alannah Hill, she's my favourite Aussie designer by far..and the Strand Arcade and David Jones..that have a great collection of designer wear.. The strand is my favourite place to go, however not that I can go and buy my entire wardrobe from designers.. but it's a great place to 'window shop' and get some inspirations.

Ciccicolina has covered my faves!!

for thrifting- there are so many good places, many gems in unexpected areas too.

Newtown has heaps and the whole of king street would probably appeal to a quirky, vintage aesthetic.

Also broadway/ surry hills area- including Broadway Betty (the store) is a good place for great thrifting finds.

also the markets! Great finds surry hills, kirribilli are my faves.
