What's with all those D list presenters?

Also, while we wait. A walk down memory lane - Oscars 10 years ago.

Huh? What's so D-list about the list? I actually find it to be surprisingly impressive.

Good mixture of popular actors (Gosling, Evans, Washington, Blunt, Witherspoon, Hart), some great comedians (Silverman, Louis C.K., Fey), up and coming talent (Robbie, Ridley, Tremblay, Attah) and past winners/icons (Goldberg, Freeman, Leto, Crowe, Gossett Jr., Del Toro).

Ha.. I hadn't noticed "Abel Tesfaye" is nominated and not The Weeknd, but they did let "Lady Gaga" be on the list and not Stefani Germanotta. They must think one's more stupid than the other. :meow:

So many things I was interested on and didn't get to watch before this: Anomalisa, the documentaries on the Cartels and Ukraine, Son of Paul, 45 years.. Room. I thought Brooklyn was good but best film of the year? come on. The Danish Girl was probably the only one that did impress me in terms of production, subtance.. message, and their cinematography didn't even get a nomination. I hope Sicario wins for that though... I love Lubezki but he has enough Oscars by now.

People like Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, Dev Patel, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Garner, Olivia Munn, Abraham Attah, etc etc have no business presenting at the Oscars. And then they wonder why the ratings are dropping. I want to see the Tom Cruises and Sandra Bullocks of the world, not random celebrities.

Well that's not really realistic. Bullock has presented pretty much every other year since her win, so I will not miss seeing her in some mediocre Elie Saab gown just for one year. And they never announce the Best Picture presenter so it could very much be a Tom Cruise. But considering there are so few Bullocks and Cruises of the world nowadays, it just ends up being an endless cycle of the same presenters. Hanks, Washington, Penn etc...

I disagree that most of those people are not allowed at the Oscars. That is just wrong. Munn is in the next X-Men flick, C.K. is one of the finest comedians at the moment and Attah is one of the breakthrough performers of the last year and just won an Indie Spirit yesterday How can you say he shouldn't be invited? If people can't appreciate that then, well, they shouldn't be watching in the first place. The Oscars have always mixed established actors with the less known ones. It's nothing out of the ordinary.

Don't worry, plenty of people will be tuning in to see how the ceremony will pan out after the controversy and to see Leo finally win.

As a far the non-nominated go, I'm most excited to see Margot, Olivia, Daisy, Emily and Charlize on the red carpet.

I was a bit too young to fully appreciate the fashion at those Oscars, but Michele Williams' outfit still remains one of the best Oscar fashion moments. Diane Kruger also looks fab.

Out of all of those, Dev Patel is the most confusing one. But there's always some randoms presenting each year.

imo Louis CK is not random. Besides being one of the best comedians and writers (check out Louie, Baskets, Horace & Pete...) out there he´s also in Trumbo, which has Bryan Cranston competing for Best Actor (which he totally deserves over Leo or Eddie!). Also, he used to be a writer for Chris Rock, maybe he wrote something for the opening?

btw, are we combining the threads for both style and entertaining?
my wishlist:

-Best Picture: The Big Short
-Actor in Leading Role: Bryan Cranston.
-Actress in Leading Role: Brie Larson.
-Actor in Supporting Role: Christian Bale (or Sly just cause I love him).

-Actress in Supporting Role: Alicia Vikander.
-Directing: The Big Short or Mad Max (I’d be happy for either).

Well... Sarah Silverman and Abraham Attah delivered two of the best performances of the year and should've totally be nominated tonight so I'm glad they at least invited them to present.
Olivia Munn is going to be in the next X-men which opens next month so it's some kind of anticipated promo I'm not surprised to see her tonight.
This will be Jennifer Garner biggest appearance since her big marriage problems so no surprise here either. I'm sure a lot of people want to see her.
I do agree though that Sofia , Louis and especially Dev are a bit odd presenter choices. But I'm not against seeing new faces and not just the usual seasoned Hollywood heavy-weights like Sandra or Tom Cruise.

EDIT: I completely forgot Louis was in Trumbo, I just assimilate him too much with TV so his presence seemed a bit odd but you're totally right Kokobombon.

Olivia Munn co-hosted the Technical Oscars. The hosts of that show get invited to the main show every year to recap. Last year, it was Margot and Miles Teller.

Well sofia vergara draws in a lot of audience to modern family + was the highest paid on television for a reason, like - i don't care for her at all, but i'm sure lots of people do
