Shiny Hair

a, I wanna know more about why Pantene is bad for the health of my hair

b, I read somewhere, ages ago, that some women use mayonaisse (don't stop reading now, i'm serious!) on their hair. As is, they smear mayonaisse into the hair, over night or whatever, covering the whole hair with some plastic foil (I can't think of the english term now...). Let it sit in, wash, rinse, voilá! Glossy Hair!

c, Something that I'm using right now is Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum. I primarily use it cause it makes my hair oh so soft, but it also lends my hair some pretty shine. Now, are Paul Mitchell products also bad for the health of my hair? Just curious.

^^^If Pantene is bad for ur hair for his chemical composants, then any shampoo or other conditioner or cosmetic product DOES ,not only Pantene.

But within all conditioners and hair products, none could make ur hair more shiny and silky in less than 1minute.

maybe this will help...

What makes certain Pantene products so bad is a combination of the harsher sulfates they use (a little demon called Ammonium) and the heavy amount of silicones they throw in to mask the fact that dear Ammonium just stripped the crap out of your hair.

You don't need to spend a truckload to get a good product. You just need to recognize a few of the common product chemicals and know how they work. Silicones, for one, can make your hair look like a dream. They're great in moderation, and with a good weekly clarifying shampoo to wash out the build-up residue they'll leave, you should be fine. You can identify silicones by finding the word 'cone' at the end of some of the ingredients. Some examples are 'amodimethicone,' 'dimethicone,' and 'cyclomethicone.' Cones are cones. They're what make your hair so detangled and slick after you use that Pantene or Victoria's Secret conditioner (that latter being what I used today, in fact.) Too much of anything is bad, though, keep in mind.

Then you have the cleaning agents--the sulfates. The more 'luxurious lather' a shampoo gives you, the more sulfates it generally contains. Sodium Lauryl is thought to be the kindest of the lot. It will clean your hair to some degree, and it won't dry you out as much as the Ammoniums. So when you're picking out a shampoo, try to pick one with a Sodium Sauryl cleaner, and preferably no silicones. If you're gonna go with silicones in the shower, try to limit them to the conditioner, but make sure you have a coneless backup conditioner on hand, and make sure you deep clean your hair once a week.

For weekly deep-cleaning, I like Neutrogena's Anti Residue shampoo, which DOES contain Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate as its 'get that crap out of your hair' cleansing agent. A lot of people favor Suave's Clarifying Shampoo, too. Pretty much the same product as Neutrogena's.

And also, Paves makes a No-Sulfates Shampoo that you can find at Walgreens for pretty cheap. It's nice to use every now and then. It cleans well but-obviously-- doesn't have any sulfates.

^^^I can't use anything with SLS or ammonia... I get the worst most chronic psoriasis ever.

A friend used Paul Mitchell Super SKinny Serum on me and I love it! Definitely recommend:heart:

I know, right??? But now, after hearing all that talk, I'm scared that it might be bad for me hair... :(

Edit: Found the ingredients:

Ingredients: Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol, Trimethylsiloxyamodimethicone, C11-15 Pareth-7, C12-16 Pareth-9, Trideceth-12, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, Cetrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Limonene, Isopropylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben

Question now... bad for my hair? I read a lotta cones, but the rest is lost on me.

On the home-made side:
-mayonaisse
-olive oil
-avocado
-egg (you have to rinse it with cold water or the egg will get cook somehow)
-vinegar
-lemon juice (for light hair, but it can dry it a bit)
-and I know of something else which was by far the best, but it was very disgusting to use, so never again.

OK, but please don't think I'm crazy
I came upon an article on the benefits of urine-therapy, not just for hair, I was :yuk: , but we read the explanation for it, by different specialists and doctors and it actually had logic to it. Any way, I didn't want to try it but then we all did. It was disgusting, but my hair looked amazing, very shiny and healthy (consider that my hair is lighten from very dark to very light blond). But I have not done it again, nor plan to do it any time soon :innocent:.

I didn't notice anything bad in the health of my hair after more than 10 years of use.

that's great if it works with you .... do you get highlights a lot ? if not , that's ok , but poeple who dye their hair a lot will notice a change ... probably

Pantene makes my hair really shiny although I have a sensitive scalp and it can get a lot of dandruff so I use Sunsilk Supersleek and Shine. It's cheap but I use Lee Stafford and Toni&Guy as well.

I DO highlights often and dye my hair reguraly from many years ago.

John Frieda nor Pantene seems to be working for my hair what about a product by TIGI/BEDHEAD - anyone??

Hate pantene

Olive oil does the trick. I dont like products for shine because I hate the idea of gunk in my hair. Heck I rarely use products at all.

John Frieda worked really well for my hair.I have blonde on top of my hair which is highlighted nearly every month and my hair look horrible ,which i was getting fed up with it because it looked very dull and dry,but a friend introduce John Frieda to me and i was very pleased with it, it looked really healthy and had a lot of shine to it.
I do belive you should not use the same product for a long time because your hair gets use to the product, then it doent have the same affect to ur hair as it did in the begining.I would recommed to swap ur shampoo and conditioner at times just to give ya hair a break from them.
My friend really loves this too TIGI/BEDHEAD she has beautiful hair.

I use shampoos and conditioners for brunette hair, deep condition lots and alwaysss rinse with cold water, works for me anyway. I sometimes use shine sprays by Trevor Sorbie and some other one which I can't remember but is really good!!

My hair is natural blonde but doesn't seem to have any shine!

I was even thinking of putting a semi-permenant colour on my hair as this conditions the hair (so I have been told by many hair stylist?) - maybe a light brown colour.

I have bought the Sunsilk blonde range yesterday and tried it today, it is shinier than normal which is good. I guess my hair is lacking colour at the moment so something needs to be done! I have not had it coloured nor highlighted in about three years.

Oh god Pantene is the worse hair product I've ever used. My hair got soo damaged. Im using Paul Mitchell Shampoo one...it doesnt have a lot of cones and a lot of other chemicals in it. At least most of the ingredients in the Paul Mitchell shampoo I know what they are.

my friend is a pharmacist and she agrees that Pantene is the worst ever because it has tons of silicone which makes hair look healthy but is actually really bad for it.

Pantene is actually good for the the look of your hair , but not for the health of your hair

Your hairs dead anyway, you can't really damage it with a shampoo or conditioner unless it contains hydrogen peroxide to lighten it. Shampoos and conditioners can maybe make your hair feel weighed down or cause build up or give you an itchy scalp but that is the health of your scalp, not the health of your hair, your hair is dead the moment it leaves the folicle. I would more worry about pantene doing something to your scalp than it damaging the hairs on your head. They are more likely damaged by blow drying, brushing, weather, colouring etc. Sorry, I just get really precise when it comes to this!
