1970s-1990s The Japanese Avant-garde

the fading reminds me of what you do when you decide to give a new life to an old kimono you never wear any more.
also, of his collections there are some that show slavic influence.
this F/W 91 seems to be one of them.

de chirico and decolorization
i recently saw an interview and yohji talked about how he likes clothing that seems to be secondhand...or worn...
clothing that has had a life or a history...
even if it is a school uniform...

he likes the way things look once they have been worn for some time so he tries to give this feeling to his clothing designs...

interesting, no?...

all these pics are great- thank you runner...
:flower::flower::flower:
the 95 menswear collection looks really good!
i really like that oversized jacket and the blk and wht sweater...

after so many years of skinny skinny suits..
i think i am ready for some bigger, boxier jackets now~
*i like a boxy jacket with a narrow bottom actually...
it is a good, androgynous look...

i bet i could wear a lot of this stuff actually...
:P

thanks user500 for finding and posting these...
does it seem funny to anyone besides me to see someone like christy turlington wearing comme des garcons?!...

she's incredibly beautiful...but somehow it's odd to see the clothes on her...
i don't know...maybe it's just me...

runner-
i noticed that you scanned the images you posted...
what are the scans from?...
is it some older 'lookbooks' that you have?
and if so- what format are they in please?...
*i am curious about whether it is a booklet style or is it cards or is it all on one page and folded, etc...
i have some of the older catalogs from the womenswear-(one was even part of the V&A exhibit)- and the reason i saved them is because they were done so well and in an interesting way...
just curious about these...thanks...

thank you for the images user500, rqfsimons

softgrey, the scans are all from the magazine named HF which is now defunct unfortunately.
it is in this kind of layout below.
I separated it into eight parts so that each look can appear big enough even in attachment not enlarged.
are you looking for interesting examples of lookbooks/catalogs ?

Hi, I know this isn't the exact thread for questions like this..but has any of these designers collaborated with theatre/dance/musical production companies on their costume design? I've just watched Wim Wenders' amazing Pina and I thought they might work well together, particularly Yohji Yamamoto^_^

Yohji Yamamoto has done costume design for two Takeshi Kitano films in the early 2000s, but as far as I can tell there's nothing else.

Dolls was done by yohji for kitano. one of the most beautiful movies I`ve ever seen
