Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2021 Paris

Yeah— he’s clearly trying to keep up with Hedi, but who cares… Taken as separates, there are many solid pieces that easily take on a different life of its own in a stylish woman’s wardrobe. And even rich girls that just buy anything will look good in these pieces. It’s a very cynical Virginie/Maria Grazia way of marketing/designing to optimizes profits of course. But unlike those two, nothing here looks frumpy/dumpy: It’s all long, lean and mean. I do adore going from the androgynous Bob Dylan aviator jacket with fair isle vest to Nico muppet fake-fur and velvet bodysuit in one collection. And those corduroy Town & Country suitings are so conservative and still so flattering.

Who cares about silly, fleeting fashion statements when most brands are either looking like a clown or a 12yo ODing on logos and monograms in their desperate bid to influence the dumb masses: I’ll take this anytime, anywhere, anyday.

I take this over his Chanel mess...
I love the pant-boots situation, the last 2 looks, the all black look with the white fur, the smoking jacket with big lapels...
BUT, even for Prefall, it just feels quite lazy. Celine is lazy but Hedi gets a pass because I think it’s kinda clear for everybody that he is a limited designer...

I kinda want or expect more from Vaccarello. I want something designed, I want a good design idea but more than that, can we get a better cast?

They are clever at KERING, they will always win. I mean Celine can sell a lot of branded merch but the aura of YSL alone will help them sell those clothes.

I actually love this. Very chic, very sleek and looks sexy in an expensive way. Love a lot of things here, but that is probably because I enjoy Hedi’s Celine in womenswear department (menswear is very meh).

I wish he would give us a bit more of what he gave us at his namesake. I do think he is talented but damn he is on auto pilot even if the offering is "nice".

Anthony can actually design, not always successfully but he does take risks and used to present us with ideas. I'm bored with his on the nose offerings these days.

I love the pant-boots situation.
respect .. I was just staring at it like this is my idea of major sartorial discomfort, the kind of items you buy that 100% guarantee a terrible day. A sock or tights that you need to pull up? can't do it in public cause first you need to be in your bra lol (I mean..), getting home and *just* want to take your shoes off? great, now you're in your panties, your heel breaks in the middle of the street? yeah no.

This is, as everyone's already said, so Celine it's so cringey.. but I do take notes on this great work strategy!, work with someone that's a great employee but with also happens to have an obnoxious, petulant personality? find a beta with great training who's just happy to get some spotlight, and flush the obnoxious one. This is like a cover band that happens to make better versions of the original songs..

Vaccarello will forever be the poor man's Slimane and he honestly does not have his own ideas, a lot of this is xerox copied from Slimane's Celine collection last year lol. I guess there was a mass migration to Celine which was putting a dent in sales at YSL. That being said some of this is nice.

Hedi may have popularised this "look" in recent times but realistically most of this is very 1970's Yves Saint Laurent; the bourgeois-bohemian vibe, the colour palette, the prints, etc. If you look through any of Saint Laurent shows from the 70's and even early 80's, you will be able to see the link. I don't understand why people believe this look is a "Hedi Slimane look", when some of these pieces are identical to looks from Saint Laurent's archive.

Celine the brand was never creating these kind of clothes even throughout the same time period. It may have been vaguely similar on the surface, but in reality it was always more conservative, more toned down, and more mass-market-taste than Saint Laurent.

Also, it is a known fact that Slimane literally copies looks, details, and accessories from the YSL archive at Celine, ie.

This is another time Anthony proves that he is good at elevatintlg Hedi's aesthetics. LOL, Hedi should have snapped him and clearly he is doing Hedi better than Hedi! It seems that he will never be able to top his FW2020, which IMO is his best efforts for the brand.

Lol you guys are so right! It really is Hedi's CELINE but add a chunky belt.

...I still think his party dresses are more fun than Hedi's...

The duo at Proenza Schouler copy old Celine and Anthony copies New Celine.:lol::lol:

It's not really saying much but...this is so much better than that bloody awful fall collection he accesorized with Claire's clearance bin finds.

I just watched "The Dreamers" and I'm definitely feeling the vibe, the styling and the studied nonchalance of each look. On the other hand it's obvious to me how unimaginative this all is, Anthony (just like his predecessor) doesn't seem interested in anything other than walking a well trodden path of common places...

Some pieces are nice but I’d really be lying if it doesn’t remind me of that Celine collection from like two years ago. Even the belts look like the Triomphe logo. This might sell better because it’s YSL come on but Anthony is much better than this, unless his peak is FW20. After Chanel last time it’s Hedi now, eh?

If anything I just feel like the whole skinny fit thing is played off and a bit dated, even Hedi moved on to something more relaxed.

It’s fabulous to look at but tbh that’s the kind of thing you can only pull off at a fancy dinner (nobody really eats anyway), at an opening or a special event….
You put talc (baby powder) before wearing it or very thin stockings.
It’s always more practical than the latex leggings (no matter how striking it looks).

It’s not even classic YSL, it’s just classic French bourgeois style. Neither Hedi or Anthony are reinventing anything. But there’s something about the models and the attitude that are quentessential Hedi.
How many times we have seen it from designers or from editors (Specially at VP)…
There are always ways to have a twist on it.

It’s just lazy in the over-referential thing.

Haha that Photo of Ines is pure gold! She wore YSL to her wedding and all just to piss off Karl. LOL
