I just wanted to give a quick and friendly general how-to on proper
quoting as legibile and easy to read posts are highly valued here and contribute to more fluid topics as well as an overall more enjoyable experience on TFS.
I know personally reading some posts have become a chore to decipher for many of us when the
quote function is not properly utilized or altogether unused. The quote box is a basic and easy to use function of most all internet forums, and it helps prevent confusion. . . When members don't utilize the
button, it becomes difficult to understand who is talking about what--it starts off as so-and-so's post (
didn't I just read that a ways back?) but then becomes a
reply to it, and sometimes there is partial html code left in the quote, but part is missing so it didn't become a proper quote...and it gets so garbled and hard to read!
So here we go! I've included screenshots of how to quote another member's post (thank you
Shelleybean for being the model
) and
how to reply without deleting the HTML code that turns that post into a proper quote box.
To quote another member here on TFS, click the button/clickable link "
REPLY W/ QUOTE" found at the bottom right-hand corner of their post.
This button/link can be found on every single post on this forum.
Once you click that, it will take you to the Reply to Thread page where you will find the post already included in your reply, complete with proper HTML forum quote code--and that's it! Just click below the block of text and begin typing your reply! No backspace, no delete, no extra work necessary! And because
the HTML forum quote code includes the member's ID name along with their post in the nifty quote box, you don't have to address them like one might in a formal letter or email--the quote box function takes all the confusion out of who one is referring to when they reply to a post!
And this is what it looks like when you hit "Submit Reply"!

My reply goes here.
Hope this helps!
